Herbalists use herbal preparations and dietary and lifestyle advice to help the body heal itself by promoting balance, easing symptoms and enhancing vitality. A holistic approach, particularly one in which herbal remedies are used, can be very effective in chronic conditions and to improve overall feelings of wellness. Many people find that it helps them to fire on all cylinders. Herbalism is still the major form of medicine for 70% of the world's population. With centuries of traditional use and increasing numbers of modern clinical trials backing up this holistic form of treatment, more and more people are choosing herbs.
Call or email now to find out how herbs can help you take control of your health
Following the birth of my daughter in November, I am currently on maternity leave. However, to ensure that current patients can keep up their treatment and to make time for any new clients who can't wait, I am seeing people at Yoga Haven one Saturday a month. Phone consultations are also available for people who have already had an initial consultation. Please contact me if you want to make an appointment.

Government going ahead with statutory regulation:
On Wednesday the 16th of February 2011, The Secretary of State for Health, Andrew Lansley, announced that the government has decided to go ahead with the statutory regulation of herbal practitioners. This means that from April 2012, all herbalists will need to be registered with the Health Professions Council to be able to practice. It ensures that anyone who calls themselves a herbalist will have to have undergone the necessary training to safely and effectively treat people. Another benefit of this will be that herbalists will continue to be able to access a wider variety of herbal remedies after the introduction of a new European directive in April 2011 that will limit the availability of herbal products.
Details of the public consultation that led to this decision can be found here:

Elderberries found to be antibacterial as well as antiviral Earlier this year, scientists from the Justus Liebeg University in Germany found out that in addition to the known antiviral effects of elderberries, this humble fruit also helps to kill off bacteria found in the throat and mouth. This means that as well as treating influenza, they will help to prevent further complications that may occur if the flu leads on to bacterial infection.
